If a borrower decides to make such a large investment into a home purchase, they should stick to their decision or they should not have taken on the loan in the first place. Why should is the onus put on tax payers to bail out thousands of delinquent home owners that made the decision not pay their loans because their homes dropped in value in the last 6-8 months. Where does it end? If I invest in a number of stocks on the NYSE on margin, and the stocks plummet, maybe I should protest at the brokerage firm or bank that gave me the loan and demand for my money back. Better yet I should ask the government to bail me out. At some point, people will have to realize that living beyond their means will eventually come back and bite them in the butt.
